Piermont, before being incorporated as a village in 1850, was called “Tappan Landing”, “Tappan Slote”, and “Taulman Landing”.

A long pier was built by the Erie Railroad in 1839 and the town was renamed. This pier was a major demarcation point for World War II troops.

Today, it is a mecca of shops, galleries, restaurants and more.

FROM MANHATTAN: George Washington Bridge upper level, first exit onto Palisades Parkway North, then follow directions from New Jersey (above).

FROM UPSTATE NEW YORK: New York Thruway South to exit 11 (Nyack), left onto Route 59 east, go through 4 traffic lights and one block past last light, right onto Piermont Avenue, under Tappan Zee Bridge, road name change to River Road, then back to Piermont Ave when you reach Piermont.
